A new grant scheme has been launched to encourage more outdoor events and activities in Aldershot and Farnborough town centres.

Any individual or organisation who has an idea for a fun event or creative project and needs financial and practical support to help organise it, is being urged to apply to the new Rushmoor Borough Council scheme.

Union Street in Aldershot and Queensmead in Farnborough are both available to book, and grants of up to £500 are available – but applications need to be in before the deadline of 21 June.

Any new events would be added to the 20 plus already organised by the council, including the Get Involved Fair (1 June), Victoria Day (8 June), Playfest! (3 August), Dinosaur Invasion! (17 and 18 August) and the Rushmoor Community Food Festival (14 September).

The grant can be used towards fun days and festivals; musicians, concerts, dancers and choirs; street entertainment and street theatre; dance and other workshops; arts projects, exhibitions and performances; living history and heritage projects and performances; markets and fetes; treasure hunts and adventure trails and any other free events which encourage busy town centres.

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Head of Economy, Planning and Strategic Housing, Tim Mills, said “Events and festivals are a key reason for people to come to town centres and a diverse event can be a major source of attraction for visitors as well as local residents.

“The new grant scheme offers a unique opportunity for people to organise their own events with our support, alongside our busy existing events programme. We’d like to hear from people who want to organise exciting new, free activities and events that would boost the vibrancy of Aldershot and Farnborough town centres and increase visitor numbers to our towns.”
